The MNGWL was formed for the purpose of providing an opportunity for students in the ninth grade and under age group to participate in a wrestling program that offers both team and individual competition. This league is organized and administered by coaches for students that are interested in participating in the sport of wrestling.

The genesis of the South Suburban Conference took
place in the fall of 2009 as nine schools left the Lake
Conference. The official start of the conference was
July 1, 2010.
